New Year's Me? No chance.
So, here we are, it's new year's eve again and I feel completely out of sorts. On one hand, last year's bash seems like it could have happened a week ago, I remember it in vivid detail (which is quite an accomplishment to say how drunk I was), but then at the same time this year seems to have crawled by at a snail's pace. I think that's partly because I've had A LOT of free time to kill between college ending in March and university beginning in September, but that still doesn't account for the weird way it seems such a short and long space of time at once. How insane.
Geek that I am, one of the main things I look forward to is discovering lots of amazing new books to read in 2012. I've already been eyeing up those set for release at the start of the new year, some I've even read already as review copies from the publisher! On that note, I received a book today for review all the way from Nashville, Tennessee. I just feel slightly sad because I know university is going to take up a fair bit of my time and there's no way I will read half as many books as I did in 2011. This just means I'm going to have to be more selective in order to make the most of my time.
While we're still on books, I'd just like to mention how I have been part of the discovery of something quite amazing. Let me explain. Since I first accepted a few self-published novels for review and discovered that they were so ridiculously terrible, I have steered well clear of them. I even went so far as to put a notice on my goodreads page saying that I will not reply to self-pub authors who contact me trying to promote their books. If shit like Tempest and Article 5 can get published then you have to ask yourself how low quality must something be to be refused by the very same publishers that are selling said shit... And then I discovered Angelfall. Now, do not be put off by anything that it might say in the description or if you don't like books about angels - I think angels are ridiculous too! This book is amazing. It is only self-pub by the author's personal choice and she never contacted any publishers in the first place. Let me tell you... it's dark, funny, gritty, unputdownable... it's everything you want. There's the tiniest suggestion of romance but it is secondary to survival and the heroine, my god, Penryn is one of the best heroines I've EVER encountered. Just read it. It's 86p on Amazon UK and 99c on Amazon US. What are you waiting for??
Phew, glad I got that off my chest. Soooo, tonight the new year celebrations will be under way and I will most likely be drunk. Look, I know it's not exactly good to plan to get drunk but, you know, it's new year's eve and I'm not a heavy drinker normally (I swear!). And then on Wednesday it's time for my charity fundraiser, fingers crossed this goes to plan because if not I'm going to look like such a moose. Yeah, that's right, a moose.
Anyway, I hope to blog soon after the new year has begun but you never know with me, I'll try my best! Oh, and I may dye my hair pink. We'll see
