Views

As a keen student of Politics and Philosophy, my views on religion and political matters are very pronounced. In fact, I'm rarely one to withhold my beliefs - and why should I? I am very opinionated, sometimes to an over-extensive degree, but my opinions are of great importance as far as I'm concerned. However, views differ greatly from one person to the next, I'm not asking you to like or support what I say, and if you feel you may be offended by others' views on religion and politics, I wouldn't bother reading this page at all. For those of you who are open-minded and curious to know what I think: please read on.

Feminism

I am a feminist. Radical, in so far as I believe that matters concerning feminism are very important even in today's societies; but liberal, in so far as I support Margaret Atwood's interpretation that true feminism is about choice and such as Pornography and Prostitution are necessary to allow women sexual freedom. When denied sexual freedom, women are no better off than they are in a Victorian or an Islamic society. Some forms of extreme feminism limit women's rights to free will and choice at least as much as traditional methods of women's decisions being made by a male figure. I think feminism is very important and I feel ashamed of womankind when I hear one say "I'm a woman, but I'm not a feminist", then how low is your value of yourself?

Marriage

I am largely against marriage. I suppose personal freedom means that to deny marriage is wrong but I believe that marriage is an odd out-dated method of tying two people together. If two people love each other, that's great and they should stay together, but why do they need a ceremony and a piece of paper to bind them - like they are trying to imprison their love. The only reason I can think of why marriage would be at all necessary to a person is if they were trying to steal their spouse's money, but then that would be wrong anyway. It all seems pointless. Once upon a time, marriage may have been a lifelong commitment, but today where it's one piece of paper to get married and one piece of paper to get divorced, why bother?

Homosexuality

Love is love, I don't think the nature of your genitals really matters at all. I am straight, but if I one day fell in love with another woman I would be happy and the fact that she was a woman wouldn't bother me at all. Homosexuality was one of the main reasons that I turned away from religion; I would never support anything that denies people the right to love who they choose regardless of gender. It isn't natural? God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve? Spare me. Religion is nothing more than a collection of hatred for races, females, homosexuals... the list goes on. It's bad enough when a man insults homosexuality based upon religious views (but then, you can expect it of him), however it sickens me when a woman does it. When a woman quotes the Bible so self-righteously I want to turn around and tell them how the Bible also tells them that women should keep their mouths shut and ask how they feel about that.
- Marriage: I have already expressed by extremely negative views on marriage and think it definitely unnecessary in any relationship. That said, it still holds great importance for many in society and I believe, therefore, that marriage should be available to all, that means gay couples as well. In other words, I think gay marriage no more ridiculous than heterosexual marriages.
- Adoption: I believe that gay couples should have every right to adopt a child, but I also believe that a child, where possible, should be given the right to a mother and father figure. Therefore, I think adoptions for male/female couples should come first. I'm sorry if you find this discriminatory, but I mean it as no disrespect to the couple, I only believe that the benefits to the child need to take priority.

Abortion

I do think it is very important to have a cut-off point after which abortions can no longer occur, but I also greatly support the pro-choice movement and believe that while the baby depends upon the mother for survival, the baby's choice of life is in the mother's hands. Some people might say that a young child is also dependent upon the mother for survival, my answer to this would be that another person could just as easily take care of the child, whereas a foetus cannot simply be removed from a woman and handed to someone else. But, don't get me wrong, I'm not a complete baby-murdering fascist and I believe that wherever possible an abortion should be avoided. But to deny a woman the right to make decisions about the use of her body is a huge jump into the past. An actual life takes precedence over a potential life.

Political

I'm a liberal. A left-winger if you must. I have modern, flexible ideas; I'm open-minded and try to be fair and, as you've already seen, I'm a feminist, a humanist and I support: gay marriage and adoption, cohabitation, abortion rights, freedom of speech and greater access to education amongst the working class. I am an atheist and see science as the way forward, my political beliefs are not bound by the teachings of the Bible. I am, however, anti-EU; this isn't because I have anything against any other European country at all, I just believe it to be bad for Britain and think deciding not to take the Euro was a very good decision. In the 2010 elections I went against my left-wing ideals and backed the Conservative Party, which led to their current coalition government with the Liberal Democrats. I will hold my hands up and say I regret the decison, I made it out of bitterness felt towards the incompetent Labour Party government, even though Labour's political ideas are ones I support myself. I intend not to make the same mistake again.

Animal Rights

I love animals, most of them anyway, but I'm not Vegan or Vegetarian. Why? Because the animal kingdom is meant to eat each other. Cruelty is disgusting and battery farming makes me sick, so I would always recommend buying free range but not to eat it isn't right either. It's obvious that humans are meant to eat meat from the dietary problems some Vegetarians suffer, we are omnivores and nature intended us to be nothing less. I believe that people need to band together to rid the world of animal testing, battery-produced hens and the many disgusting displays of cruelty towards animals, but I think that giving up meat is an unnecessary step.
